Climate Workshop and Tree Planting at Matipula School in Chongwe

On Wednesday 14 October, we held a climate workshop and tree planting at Matipula School in Chongwe where we planted 100 Musangu trees after talking to the students about community forest management and their role in protecting trees.

We chose to plant Musangu, a tree that has been deforested in Chongwe due to charcoal burning and illegal tree logging.

Matipula is the 6th school in Chongwe where we have planted trees, bringing the number of trees we have planted in schools to 600. This initiative is part of our larger Chongwe Reforestation Project where we are going to plant 1 million trees on January 15 2027.

We also formed a nature club at the school comprised of more than 80 students who will meet regularly to discuss climate change and their role in making sure it does not get worse. We call them forest champions.

Some of the students will also accompany us as we raise awareness about climate change in Chongwe.

On the launch of the 1 million trees, we are going to invite 5 schools who will give us at least 50 students each. The Minister of Green Economy will also be there to officiate.
